From Farm to Space
September 2020
Join the Lancaster Farmers Market and Volunteer NASA Solar System Ambassador and Lancaster resident, Carol Abbott, in a celebration of Local and Space Food, Nutrition, and the 20th Anniversary of the International Space Station. We’ve created a special set of activities to help you explore this amazing topic!

To get started, come to the Lancaster Farmers Market on Saturday, September 12th (8:30 am - 12:00 pm) to pick up an Activity Pack, or use the links below. There’s a coloring contest for all ages (adults, too!), and families can complete the activities for a chance to enter a prize drawing held on Saturday, October 3rd (the last market of the season).
The Activity Pack consists of informational handouts, NASA booklets, links to videos and other internet resources, and coloring contest sheets. These activities are centered on nutrition, the Farmers Market as a local food source, and how food eaten in space on the International Space Station (ISS) compares to earth food. You’ll learn about the history of space food and the ISS just in time to celebrate its 20th anniversary of continuous occupation this fall. You’ll even get a chance to watch for an overhead pass of ISS as it orbits the earth!
Activity Packs are available beginning at the Lancaster Farmers Market on September 12, can be picked up during the following week at Keller Market House, or accessed online at the links below. Bring (or mail) your coloring contest entries and/or completed checklist (at least 15 of 20 items) to the Lancaster Farmers Market or Keller Market House during the week of September 27. The final deadline is 11:00 am Saturday, October 3rd.
The prize for the winning three coloring contest entries (based on age range) is an International Space Station patch. We will select randomly from the completed Activity Pack checklist entries for one to win a $25 gift certificate to Keller Market House. The drawing will take place at 11:00 am at the final Farmers Market Saturday on October 3. If not present, winners will be notified by email.
